Stage Reservations

View more detailed information in the Dodge College Production Guide.

Stages will be reserved to thesis productions at the beginning of each semester based on their submitted stage proposals.  When a proposal is approved, an email will be sent requesting follow-up information.  Once additional information has been received, you will be able to request a meeting with the Stage Manager.

Students will meet with the Stage Manager to discuss, in detail, their plans for the stage at least one week prior to moving into the stage (sooner is better). The following key positions need to be present at this meeting:

  • Producer
  • Director
  • 1st A.D.
  • Production Designer
  • Cinematographer

Set design, lighting design, safety issues and fire code issues as well as many other points will be discussed, so please have all this information prepared BEFORE coming into the meeting.

Stage Check-Out

At the check-out we will go over the finer points of the stage policy, all the keys will sign the policy and the production will be issued the appropriate keys for the stage.

The following Stage Certified Crew must be present at checkout.

  • Producer
  • Director
  • 1st A.D.
  • Production Designer
  • Gaffer
  • Key Grip

Returns

The Stage Manager or a Studio Assistant will conduct a final walk through with a representative of the production to inspect the stage and to turn in the keys. If the stage is not back to its original condition by this time, the production will be given the opportunity to fix any unresolved problems but a late fine may be assessed.

Proper training is required before anyone can hold the position of Producer, Director, First Assistant Director, Production Designer, Gaffer or Key Grip on a production shooting in the stage. This two hour workshop trains attendees on reservation procedures, stage safety rules and use of the equipment. The workshop also covers capacity limitations, the location of emergency exits as well as the use of the elephant and roll up doors. Once you have completed the workshop, you are certified!

Workshops are typically offered at the beginning of each semester. Announcements for upcoming workshops are sent out via email which will include instructions on how to sign up.
